pregnant

[motherrex]
Hello. I have an odd curiousity: For the past two weeks I get this odd feeling around the vaginal area where it feels like there's a string pulling the clitoris up and in (Sort of like a backwards version of the Time Warp-You want to pull inward instead of thrusting out). Anyone else have this happen before?

Also, anyone's kid recognize the dad and environment while in the womb? Mine starts kicking and then stops when anyone other than my S.O. touches my stomach. She only kicked once for his aunt. She also picks up when certain people are around and when she likes where she's at. I met a group of his friends yesterday, and at first she didn't kick at all, but about an hour in, she wouldn't stop kicking. It was like she was saying "C'mon mom! I want to party too!" But whenever grandma is around, she stops. We're tripping out on this because she does the same thing with my friends: If she doesn't like them she won't kick, if she does, I can't stop her.

[ mood | blah ]

I'm 33w3d pregnant, and am feeling the wrath that is the third trimester. I miss the 2nd trimester so much! :(

This morning I woke up with a pain in my chest, more in the middle area. It feels like my chest muscles are sore, or like I've been kicked in the sternum. It hurts most when I inhale, as my lungs inflate. Has anyone else felt this before?

Also, I wanted to write on here yesterday about the fact that I feel like I've also been kicked in the vagina. It's just sore down there, and I feel it most at night when I move my legs (even when I sleep with a pillow between). But I also feel it during the day sometimes while walking. Any ideas?

For those with BOB strollers and the adapters, which car seat did you purchase to go with it?

Also, what's the difference between one car seat and another (besides colors and style)?  They all look the same to me.

Numbness/Nerve Compression? [21 Dec 2009|09:00am]

pregnant

[hoping_4_happy]
So I finally called my OB about the numbness. My legs are going numb most any time I sit down and when I sleep, the whole half of my body goes numb! And the weird part was that it is never the side that I am sleeping on- it's the opposite. So I called and the the nurse immediately said nerve compression from baby/uterus, but when she saw that I was only 14 weeks she seemed concerned... She sent a note to my OB and someone is supposed to call me later.

Anyone else dealt with this and what did your OB say? Is it really weird to have it this early? Is it foretelling bad things to come when baby really is huge?

I hope this post isn't bothering anybody.. but since it has to do with being pregnant.

What exactly is implantation bleeding like? I have heard so many people say it is like a period, but lighter.. Well .. I mean, when I have MY period.. it is HEAVY so .. lighter than a period could still mean soaking tampons for me.

Also, is implantation bleeding suppose to be the bright red/pink blood or dark brownish/burgandy blood? I feel so confused after looking through other websites.

As for why i'm posting - fiance and i are active. we don't use any real protection -pill, condoms, etc but he does "pull out". been using this so called "method" for months.. never had any sort of problem.. but past two days i've been spotting i guess you can say. the amount of blood is so insignificant you could barely notice it. it doesn't even get on my panties. i only notice when i wipe. (i chart, so.. i notice everything.) it literally looks creamy cervical mucus with a pink tint. there are NO cramps accompanying it. it started at 7dpo. i'm 10dpo today and still have it. it doesnt happen everytime i go to the bathroom either.

i would say that maybe it's just my period starting but i usually dont start till 14dpo, and when i spot right before starting it is usually accompanied by lots of cramps and the blood is very dark. also, past few days we HAVENT been active so it cant be from rough sex (;.

thank you in advance, and so sorry to those who roll their eyes at these types of posts. :) happy holidays.

Lack of sleep :( [21 Dec 2009|04:55am]

pregnant

[caz0rz]
I've barely slept in days.

I'm 36 weeks today (scary).

It's not that I feel uncomfortable, I do, but it's not effecting my sleep. Like yeah I'm getting kicked in all kinds of places and yes my baby moves a tonne, but it doesn't stop me sleeping.

My problem is this: I put on a movie, I can fall asleep to it...but the minute the lights go out for 'sleep time' I can't switch off, I get all wide awake and jittery. >.<

I'm frustrated, grumpy, annoyed and exhausted.

These past few days a lot of crap has hit the fan - I had a car crash the other day where we got flipped and I noticed I have bruises on my calves and scrapes all down one side. And my muscles have started to ache from it :( which doesn't help with the sleeping thing, but it's not a cause for it either...if that makes sense.

I'm tired. And I want to get more than 20 hours sleep a week.

Baby Shower. [20 Dec 2009|08:29pm]

pregnant

[mommy2befeb23]
First I want to say thanks to everyone for helping me out with my last post! I would of went crazy if it was not for you guys lol. I will update you on whats going on after I get my ultrasound done and the tests back. =)

So on to my next question. I was looking over my baby registry and I think im 100% done with it but not sure. I have all the basic needs crib, car seat, bottles, diapers exct. I tried to watch the prices because I know moneys tight for everyone rite now. I put on stuff that I know I need or will definitely use. What are somethings that would be a great help and that you recommend?

Also what are things that you really dont think people "need". I heard that a changing table is just a waste of space but then I hear some people love it. I know its a matter of what I want and all that, but I would like to hear what everyone says. I rather have people buy me things that I need and that will definitely come in handy then something that I can really go wit out. Thanks again!

Infant car seat + stroller base question [20 Dec 2009|03:57pm]

pregnant

[ajsuram]
Okay, so at my 25w6d I finally got around to reading "Baby Bargains" (which I like not so much for bargains part, but because it explains very nicely what is this baby stuff all about and what are the options). From what they recommend, and from what I've seen so far (yesterday, we went for a nice walk through the city's most stroller-populated neighborhood, lol), I kind of like the idea of having an infant car seat and a stroller base for the first 6 months. However, does this combo imply that I am walking, like, 2 blocks from the car and back, and this is it? What if I go for longer walks around the city - would it still be okay?
Any advice would be appreciated. I am at a loss, and I don't know anyone with small kids here in the city to ask for their experience.
Thank you!

I'm 32 weeks tomorrow and for the past week have had HORRIBLE pelvic pain, I mean just getting out of bed all throughout the night to pee the pain is so bad I feel like my bones are going to fall out. When I walk it hurts, I took a Tylenol but it didn't help at all. I read online it means the babies head is dropping, isn't it a little too early for this? I'm not due until Valentines day.

I am 17 weeks as of today! I have been feeling flutters since 13 weeks, but only occasional kicks every couple days...Is this normal? I am also about 50 pounds over weight...I forget I am pregnant half the time, and can't wait to feel regular movement! I have my level 2 ultrasound on the 28th and I can't wait!!!

I guess I just need reassurance! Ahhhh

Get these hormones out of my mouth! [20 Dec 2009|08:01am]

pregnant

[racheloves]
I've had a bad taste in my mouth from all these extra hormones down my throat, but recently it has become much more revolting and persistent.

It used to be that I could have some relief thanks to that new Crest with Scope Outlast toothpaste. I would brush my teeth, behind my lips, the whole roof og my mouth, the sides of my mouth, even down my throat a bit, and I would get some relief.

Now, less than a minute after, back to the nastiness! I kept drinking from my husband's coke tonight because swishing it around in my mouth would take away the taste temporarily. Thank you, acid wash :).

What has anyone else done for this? The indigestion is bad enough, I now have to take 5+ antacid tablets a day just to keep from puking more than necessary. I want this taste out!

29 weeks today.. Actually, more like 29w 1d thanks to 6 minutes ago being midnight :).

Cramping = ? [20 Dec 2009|08:04pm]

pregnant

[these_3_remain]
I'm 13w3d with my first bebe. I've been having mild menstrual-like cramps since week 5, which I've just assumed were my uterus growing and stretching, and which my OB said was normal. Now I'm having some really bad pain that's getting scary/annoying. Sometimes when I stand up from a chair, I have a severe cramping pain to either side of my uterus - almost like I have a "charlie horse." I feel like my muscles are tightening up and not letting go, or that a muscle or ligament is getting twisted. (Hopefully that makes sense.)

My stomach muscles tend to tighten up when I'm nervous, so this is sometimes a vicious cycle - cramps happen, I get nervous about the cramps, so my stomach gets tight, cramps get worse.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Should I be concerned? I've not had any bleeding or spotting, so I'm not worried about miscarriage. I just keep thinking that my guts getting all twisted in knots can't be great for the baby.

ETA: Thanks for the comments! I didn't realize that round ligament pain could be so severe. Now I know, and I think that's what it is. It's nice to have an explanation.

35 weeks, 5 days... [19 Dec 2009|10:29pm]

pregnant

[caz0rz]
Well...wow.

Today I:

Survived a freaking CAR CRASH. It was so so scary.

Everyone's okay, but our car got tipped onto it's side. I'm 35 wks, 5 days.

I can't stop thinking all the 'what ifs' about the crash. For some reason, before we set off I felt like I should sit in the back seat...it damn well saved my life and my baby's.

As well as wearing my seat belt PROPERLY.

I urge everyone: wear your belt, it will save your life. And your baby's (if you wear it properly).

We were coming up to an icy part in the road (Scottish highlands), car swerved right, we did a 180 and then we went (slowly) into a ditch, car turned once and my husband was screaming 'HOLD ONTO SOMETHING, HOLD ON, HOLD ON.' He kept asking if I was okay, if I was feeling the baby move, if the baby was okay. It was such a horrible moment in my life...I really wasn't sure what I was thinking, but this overwhelming feeling of calm washed over me, it only started to scare me when my dad came to pick us up and we went back to the scene of the crash to reclaim our stuff.

My husband kept saying 'what should we do, what should we do?'. So I prayed. And loads of people stopped their cars and helped us. No one would let me out cause they were scared to move me and it was difficult to shift me from where I was sitting. Then someone stopped and was like 'I'm a fireman, whose in there?' they told him I was in the car and he got me out the boot. Everyone was so nice to us.

The greatest thing about all this is: my baby is okay. My husband is alive, my brother (who was driving) is alive and none of us have broken bones, ruptured anything...I broke a few nails (having long nails actually saved my hand because a bit of glass cut through one of my nails and it sliced clean off...if I'd had short nails, it would have cut through my hand).

I think what I have learned today is that a thin piece of material saved the life of me and my baby, as well as the other passengers. http://www.dft.gov.uk/think_media/241045/241136/buckleup.pdf

Is a good site, shows you how to wear a seat belt properly when pregnant. I advise every one to check it out.

laptop in the hospital [19 Dec 2009|04:30pm]

pregnant

[missaligator]
So this might be completely naive of me as I’m sure that when I am in the hospital I will be exhausted and overwhelmed, but do most hospitals let you bring our laptop with you? I am planning on making my own baby announcement cards with the baby’s picture on them (through snapfish or some other website like that) and I would love to get a jump on it if/when I have a second in the hospital. Any thoughts?

37weeks2days [19 Dec 2009|01:15pm]

pregnant

[snoringbeautee]
I am now officially "Full term" so yay for me. So far so good however at my last doctor's visit (not with my usual doc but one I've seen maybe 3 times) I received some bad news... my OBGYN will not be doing my cesarean on New Years Eve, a doctor whom I've never met will be doing it instead. My regular OB scheduled it for me, he said he would be on-call that day and set up the time and everything and I haven't seen him in a while and I'm starting to suspect he's on vacation or something. I have less than two weeks to let this soak in and I'm terrified because I don't know this doctor at all, I feel like I'm starting all over again...but I do have an my very last appointment on Christmas Eve with a doctor I've never met who may be the doctor doing the surgery, I'm crossing my fingers she is caring and understanding and isn't old with shaky hands lol.

I'm starting to have short panic attacks at night about the spinal anesthesia. I have tattoos and don't fear getting my blood drawn but I can't help but freak out about it more so then the surgery itself. I've been off my anxiety meds all pregnancy and can't help but think that I might pee myself on the way to the hospital in fear. These attacks tend to happen while in bed mostly. Any suggestions or comforting words?

Note to self: pack hospital bags. Anyone have a suggestion for something to pack that I might not have thought of yet? or something from experience you were glad you brought?

Also, 37 week belly photos...NSFW 37w2days )

transvaginal ultrasound question [19 Dec 2009|04:31pm]

pregnant

[kittkatt23]
Hi everybody,

currently preggers at 7w 2d (according to LMP), but had a transvag ultrasound today that put me at about 6.5weeks based on the CRL. fair enough, i guess i could have ovulated a little later than i thought. also got a heartbeat so pretty relieved about that.  this u/s was done at a private (as opposed to NHS) ultrasound clinic - i spotted some browny stuff on friday evening and a NHS midwife i phoned said to 'wait and see' and that they would get back to me on MONDAY but that i would more than likely have to wait at least until after xmas for a scan...  so that's why i got the appt at the private place.

burning question: i cannot, for the life of me, remember the sonographer putting a condom on the probe she used. i can remember seeing a large glob of lube on the tip of the probe and i think i remember the rest of the probe looking 'naked', but i was so nervous about the whole thing that my mind was focussed totally on it going in and it didn't even cross my mind then.

i'm going to phone on monday to see what they have to say (though i think if it was missed, they wouldn't admit it anyway?!!!)

is it possible they have some kind of sterile cover that looks like part of the probe? or could she have, put a condom on top of the tip covered in gel very quickly during the journey from the probe's holder on the machine towards my nether regions!?

just don't want to catch any nasties y'know!! anyone had similar experiences or shed some light on this?

also, can you expect a bit more spotting after a transvag u/s?

TL;DR Are second baby showers tacky when it's a new paternal family?

I looked through the tags, but didn't see anything that fit my situation. I'm due in May with my second child. My daughter will be 3 1/2 when the baby gets here. I know it's sometimes considered tacky to have a second baby shower. However, my daughter is from a previous relationship. This is the first grandchild for boyfriend's mother and she's incredibly excited. She hasn't mentioned a baby shower or anything yet, but my boyfriend has. He doesn't have a lot of family here, so I figured it would be a nice way to bring both sides of the family together. That and I figure some family/friends on my side may be offended if they don't get invited. I wouldn't throw the shower myself, but would wait for someone else to throw it. I don't want to come off as tacky, but it would be nice to have a small hand in getting the stuff together for the baby. Everybody has different tastes and such, and would find things that I might not. My mom has mentioned getting stuff for the baby shower as well. So, I might not actually get a say so in it anyways. I was just wondering how a second baby shower would look in my situation.

Thanks everybody!
